Young jockey in coma after fall at Morphettville

Young South Australian jockey Amy Herrmann has been taken to hospital following a fall during a jumps trial at Morphettville.

She was treated at the scene, where her condition was serious but stable.

She has been placed in an induced coma at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Thoroughbred Racing SA issued the following statement:

Thoroughbred Racing SA can confirm jockey Amy Herrmann was taken to hospital following a fall during a jumps trial just before 12 noon today (CST) at Morphettville.

Amy was riding Urania Belle in a field of five when she was dislodged when her mount stumbled and fell after jumping the final hurdle.

She was treated at the scene by medical staff before being transferred by ambulance to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Morphettville trainer Craig Curtis said the entire South Australian industry was wishing the former top apprentice well.

"It’s unbelievable," Curtis said.

"She one of the hardest workers around. I’m told the horse jumped the last without a worry and then stumbled a couple of strides afterwards.

"We’re all just hoping for the best."
