Race for the Case: Week 7 college football picks from Dan Wetzel, Pete Thamel and Pat Forde

Georgia is halfway through its regular-season schedule. It is 6-0 and ranked No. 1 in the country. Maybe more impressive, it has won its games by a cumulative score of 239-33. The Bulldogs' worst result was a 10-3 victory over Clemson in the opener.

The defense is filthy. Nose tackle Jordan Davis. Defensive back Derion Kendrick. Lineman Adam Anderson. Linebacker Nakobe Dean. Safety Tykee Smith. And so on. And so on.

The offense has been more than good enough, even with the shuffling of quarterbacks between JT Daniels and Stetson Bennett due to injury.

So far, so good. Which is why Georgia is a whopping 22.5-point favorite at BetMGM against a visiting Kentucky team that is having their own great season — 6-0 and ranked 11th nationally.

Vegas doesn’t care. That’s how good Georgia looks.

So here comes the pressure of expectations for the Bulldogs, a program that despite enjoying enormous resources and local talent, hasn’t won a national title since 1980. It’s a nearly inexplicable drought.

With this team looking so good — and rival Alabama suddenly looking mortal after losing to Texas A&M — the question for Georgia and coach Kirby Smart is simple: if not this year, then when?

It’s part of the backdrop of a Week 7 slate of games that may lack obvious marquee matchups, but will likely produce many results that sort out the pecking order of the season.
