Punter loses $1.7 million on unbelievable twist of fate
Is this the most brutal punting story you’ve ever heard?
A football punter in the UK has missed out on an incredible $1.74 million windfall because of an unbelievable twist of fate.
The man was taking part in the ‘Sky Super 6’ on the weekend – a promotion that sees fans walk away with £1,000,000 if they can predict the exact scores of six matches in one round.
The punter had already predicted five scorelines and was sweating on Wigan beating Nottingham Forest 2-1 in the Championship.
And he would have been sweating bullets when Wigan took a 2-1 lead late in the game, but it turned to disaster when Forest were awarded a 90th minute penalty.
The punter would have been praying that Forest missed the spot kick, and his prayers initially looked to have been answered.
As you can see in the video above, goalkeeper Christian Walton stepped up and parried away the kick, appearing to save the punter.
The $1.7 million was in the bag, until Hillal Soudani pounced and slammed the rebound into the back of the net to make it 2-2.
You couldn’t get any closer to $1.7 million if you tried.
Some bloke on the the £1m in super six, forest get a pen, miss it and then bang the rebound in – genuinely feel gutted for him! 😩😩😩 #SuperSix

That super six contestant must be sick. Pen saved for a million quid and some tosser knocks in the rebound.

Genuinely feel sorry for whoever that was who was sat on the £1m in super six. Forrest get a pen, miss it and then bang the rebound in. I wouldn’t speak to anyone for weeks mate 😰 #Super6 #supersix @SkySportsNews
