PSG edge Brest to extend big Ligue 1 lead

Mauro Icardi has came off the bench to score the winner as lacklustre Paris Saint-Germain won 2-1 at Brest in the French Ligue 1.

Six minutes after replacing Edinson Cavani in attack, the Argentine striker turned the ball in from close range after Brest failed to clear a cross from the left.

It was Icardi's ninth goal in 10 games since joining on a season's loan from Inter Milan.

Angel Di Maria put PSG ahead late in the first half with an excellent finish but forward Samuel Grandsir punished a sloppy second half from PSG with the equaliser in the 72nd.

Sergio Rico started his first game in goal for PSG after Keylor Navas hurt himself in the pre-match warm-up, going off with what appeared to be an adductor injury.

PSG are on 30 points from 13 games, now nine clear of Angers who had Angelo Fulgini red carded on 70 minutes of their scoreless draw at fifth-placed Reims.

Lille moved into the top three thanks to another stalemate as they shared the spoils from a 0-0 draw with struggling Metz, who moved out of the bottom three.

Monaco moved up to eighth after returning to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over second-bottom Dijon.

Russia international Aleksandr Golovin broke the deadlock three minutes before the break with his third league goal of the season and that proved enough.

Lebo Mothiba was on target with a brace as Strasbourg pulled three-points clear of the relegation zone with a 4-1 victory over 10-man Nimes at Stade de la Meinau.

Ludovic Ajorque opened the scoring after 14 minutes for Strasbourg before South Africa striker Mothiba doubled their lead on the stroke of halftime.

Midfielder Romain Philippoteaux pulled one back for the visitors just after the break before lowly Nimes lost Florian Miguel to a second yellow card on 66 minutes.

Dimitri Lienard restored Strasbourg's two-goal lead with 20 minutes remaining and Mothiba added the gloss with his second of the night five minutes from time.
