'Positives to take'
After two league defeats, last night's cup win over Doncaster will give the players a measure of confidence going into the weekend game against Bournemouth.
Yes, it was a game they were expected to win but a good second half performance will give them something to take into Saturday.
Some of the new signings, like Jesper Lindstrom and Jake O'Brien got more minutes in their legs, and Iliman Ndiaye scored a great individual goal.
It will be interesting to see if they have played their way into Sean Dyche's mind for a starting berth. Regardless, there were definitely some positives to take from the game.
Bournemouth have started with two draws and, while they have now lost Dominic Solanke, they have still got plenty of threat and will feel aggrieved at VAR's late intervention against Newcastle.
So it is going to be a tough game for Everton, but they will have fond memories of recent meetings at Goodison and will hope that they can use that history to get their season off and running - especially going into the international break.
