Police: Ex-MMA fighter Tyler East fatally shot in domestic dispute

Former MMA fighter Tyler East was shot and killed on Monday in New Mexico, according to police. He was 30 years old.

New Mexico State Police say that they responded to a domestic violence call Monday evening in the Albuquerque suburb of Los Lunas, according to multiple local reports. When police arrived, they say they found East dead alongside a woman with a gunshot wound. According to KOB4, the woman, whose name was not released, is hospitalized in stable condition.

According to police, East shot his girlfriend and dragged her out of a house before an unidentified man shot and killed East. The suspect in East's shooting fled the scene prior to police arrival.

East's MMA history

According to MMA site Sherdog, East tallied a 15-6 career record as a heavyweight fighting across various organizations including Bellator. His last fight was at Legacy FC 60 in 2016. He was the brother of ex-UFC fighter Cody East, according to MMA Junkie.

East was arrested in 2020 on charges of stealing money from his dead grandfather's bank account in addition to battery and resisting arrest after allegedly fleeing from police, according to KRQE. According to MMA Junkie, he was arrested multiple times in the past 12 years on domestic violence-related charges including kidnapping and aggravated battery.
