Nadia Podoroska has battled back from a set down to reach the quarter-finals of the Linz Open by ousting 2018 champion Camila Giorgi.

No.6 seed Podoroska shrugged off the disappointment of dropping a close opening set against the big-hitting Italian to convincingly win 6-7 (7-4) 6-1 6-4 in two hours and 32 minutes.

The 23-year-old Argentinian, who reached the French Open semi-finals, will face fourth-seeded Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova in the last eight.

"I had to take so many risks, a lot more than I'm used to, but I knew that was the right way," Podoroska told wtatennis.com.

"The first set was really high-level, it could have gone either way. The second, I think I got myself together well because I had really lost my calm and my order.

"In the third, I felt much more comfortable playing first-strike tennis and I had gotten used to that fast pace and I could keep up my patterns."

Top seed Aryna Sabalenka remains on course for glory after easing past Stefanie Voegele in straight sets.

The 22-year-old Belarusian wrapped up an emphatic 6-0 6-3 win over her Swiss opponent in just over an hour.

France's Oceane Dodin awaits world No.11 Sabalenka in the last eight after she defeated Romanian Sorana Cirstea 6-4 6-4.

No.2 seed Elise Mertens also progressed after being made to work hard for a 6-4 5-7 6-2 victory by 36-year-old Russian Vera Zvonareva.

Veronika Kudermetova, another Russian, awaits Belgian Mertens next following her 6-4 1-6 6-3 victory over Dutch player Arantxa Rus.
