Plenty of people were ready to see Mike McCarthy fired after Packers' loss to Seahawks
By nearly all accounts, Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy had a brutal game on Thursday against the Seattle Seahawks.
Whether it was failing to mount a challenge against Tyler Lockett’s “catch,” giving budding star Aaron Jones only six touches in the second half, some adventurous timeout management or the decision to punt 4th and 2 on Green Bay’s final possession, McCarthy’s detractors had plenty to point to as the Packers lost 27-24 and fell to 4-5-1.
Here’s the best the internet had to offer following the end of the game.
Twitter fires up the hot seat for Mike McCarthy
For many, no moment symbolized what McCarthy cost the Packers more than that decision to not go for it on 4th and 2. Armed with one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history in Aaron Rodgers and needing only two yards, McCarthy instead placed his faith in a defense that had given up 147 yards in the Seahawks’ previous two possessions.
Compounding the consequences was McCarthy only having one timeout remaining with four minutes left on the clock, meaning that only a few well-timed first downs would be enough to ice the game. Which the Seahawks quickly did.
The whole sequence of events were infuriating for many:
A Mike McCarthy masterpiece: Blow your timeouts so you don’t use your challenge but you do punt on fourth-and-2 when your D is getting steamrolled.

Your season and your job on the line 4th and 2 down 3 on the road with 1 timeout and 4 minutes left and Mike McCarthy punts. Way to go out with a whimper.

Not sure what’s worse…Mike McCarthy only having 1 timeout at the end of the game…or Mike McCarthy choosing to punt on 4th and 2 knowing he only had 1 timeout at the end of the game.

Mike McCarthy trusted his defense over Aaron Rodgers needing only 2 yards to gain

Soon, it was time for reflection on McCarthy’s tenure. The exercise did not dredge up positive memories:
Some of the worst losses of the Mike McCarthy tenure have come in Seattle. They absolutely should have won this game and won it relatively handily. Embarrassing loss all around.

Like 90% of all anger that I experience is directly due to Mike McCarthy

I'm about to start a column that Mike McCarthy's family shouldn't read.

yes, inexplicable losses are Mike McCarthy's art and Seattle is his Sistine Chapel

Mike McCarthy wasted a decade of the best QB in NFL history

Finally, people had seen enough to decide that, after more than a decade in Green Bay, it was time for McCarthy to be shown the door.:
It's time to fire Mike McCarthy, right?
His Super Bowl win exemption has to have expired by now and there are just too many poor decisions, like not challenging that Lockett "catch".

McCarthy shoulda been fired the last time he lost his spine in Seattle. Maybe this one does the trick. Punting there. Woooooof

Gotta believe Mike McCarthy has six games left as head coach of the Green Bay Packers.

Green Bay under .500 on Thanksgiving. Rodgers has started all 10 games.

Regardless how the Packers got there, that portends bad things for Mike McCarthy. Very bad.— Peter King (@peter_king) November 16, 2018
The Packers dumped Ty Montgomery because he cost Aaron Rodgers one last chance to win the Rams game.
Down 3, Mike McCarthy punts on 4th and 2 with 1 timeout left and 4:20 on the clock.
Rodgers never gets another chance. So what does Green Bay do with McCarthy?

Mike McCarthy not going for it on 4th down probably sealed the deal on his Packers career

"Mike McCarthy has done a lot of the Packers in his career, if you want him fired you're a clown"
