Emergency services arrived at the scene to find the Cessna 172 Skyhawk plane flipped on its roof.
The aircraft had also left the runway and come to a stop on the grass nearby.
The pilot, who was the only person on board, had survived the crash.
“The pilot, and sole occupant of the vessel, was checked and cleared by Ambulance Victoria,” a Victoria Police spokesperson said.
