Pistons will make new performance center a voting site for future elections

The Detroit Pistons want Michigan residents to get out and vote. The team is working with the Michigan secretary of state’s office to drive voter participation. As a result, the team’s new performance center will be a voting site in future elections.

The Pistons made that announcement Wednesday. The team also announced that all employees will have paid off days on Aug. 4 and Nov. 3 so they can vote.

In a statement, Pistons owner Tom Gores said the team is “committed to promoting informed participation in the electoral process.” Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson called the Pistons “tremendous civil leaders.”

During a normal regular season, it is possible games could fall on Nov. 3. That won’t be the case this year, as the league is reportedly looking to start the 2020-21 season in December due to the coronavirus pandemic.
