Phoenix Suns coach Monty Williams was fined $15,000 on Tuesday for his criticism of the officials after their Game 4 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday.

Williams laid into the officiating after Game 4, which the Pelicans won 118-103 at the Smoothie King Center. That win tied the series up 2-2.

During that contest, the Pelicans shot 42 free throws compared to just 15 from the Suns โ€” something Willams clearly didnโ€™t think was fair. The Suns were called for 28 fouls on the night, and New Orleans was hit with just 16.

โ€œYou can slice it any way you want to. In a playoff game that physical, [the disparity] is amazing,โ€ Williams said Sunday of the foul gap, via ESPN. โ€œCoaches shouldnโ€™t have to come up to the microphone and feel like theyโ€™re going to get their heads cut off for speaking the truth โ€ฆ Itโ€™s not like we donโ€™t attack the basket. They outplayed us, they deserve to win. Thatโ€™s a disparity that you have to look at โ€ฆ Itโ€™s hard [to] swallow.โ€

The foul disparity was far bigger in Game 4 compared to the rest of the series. In Game 2, which the Pelicans won 125-114, New Orleans shot just two more free throws than Phoenix did. There was a four free throw gap in Games 1 and 3, too.

Game 5 of the series is set for Tuesday night in Phoenix. The Suns are a -6.5 point favorite on BetMGM.
