Pelicans PG Rajon Rondo to miss game vs. Rockets with sprained wrist

Pelicans point guard Rajon Rondo will not play Saturday against the Rockets due to a sprained wrist.

Pelicans point guard Rajon Rondo will not play Saturday against the Rockets because of a sprained wrist, the team announced.

It's not clear when Rondo suffered the injury, but New Orleans will have to face the top team in the Western Conference without a starter who is averaging 8.2 points and 7.9 assists per game this season. Jrue Holiday and Ian Clark are expected to see more playing time with Rondo sidelined.

The team also announced that reserve forward Nikola Mirotic is questionable with an injured right hip flexor.

The Pelicans (43-30) have won four straight and are tied with the Spurs for fifth place in the tightly packed Western Conference heading into Saturday's matchup but only three games up on the ninth-place Nuggets. New Orleans is trying to reach the playoffs for the first time in three years.
