Patrick Mahomes says Andy Reid broke news to him about death of his girlfriend's stepfather
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Quarterback Patrick Mahomes briefly addressed the death of his girlfriend’s stepfather, who collapsed on his way to a Kansas City Chiefs game on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium and later died in the hospital.
“I didn’t know about it until after the game,” Mahomes told reporters. “Coach [Andy] Reid actually told me in the tunnel after the game and it was shocking.
“He was a great man and he was a great stepdad for Brittany [Matthews].
“She’s back home now with her mom and her family. I’m still sending my prayers to them and I’ll be here during the week. Hopefully I’ll be able to see them over Thanksgiving break.”
Mahomes did not do his customary postgame presser in lieu of going to the hospital on Sunday.
Matthews announced the death of her stepfather via Instagram.
