A woman was blasted on talkback radio on Thursday morning for her ‘selfish’ act on a ‘packed’ Sydney train.
The photo of a young woman sitting on the train was sent in to 2GB by a man only identified as Jason who told host Ray Hadley his wife took the picture on Wednesday afternoon on a train travelling from the city to Macarthur.
The photo shows the young woman sitting on a two-seater, engrossed by her phone with her backpack occupying the seat next to her, preventing another passenger could sit there.
“My wife was happy to stand, however there was an elderly lady that really could of used this seat,” Jason’s note to 2GB read.
“It turns out she was holding the seat for a friend who got on somewhere after the airport while all the other passengers had to stand!
“Refusing to move her bag for anyone to sit down.”
Jason explained the trains were packed “due to cancellations and issues going on” and when someone “had words with her” she laughed to herself.
“These days I’m too worried to say something in case they just decide to stab you, or how they are going to react,” Jason said.
“This an inconsiderate young woman with no feelings for other people, particularly older people. She should be embarrassed,” Mr Hadley responded.
2GB decided to obscure the woman’s face so she wouldn’t be identified, but so the woman could be embarrassed.
“Hang your head in shame,” Mr Hadley said.
“You’re very, very rude.”
As Mr Hadley promised, the picture was uploaded online, and the woman was further attacked on social media.
“I'm sure your mum and dad are very proud of you. NOT,” one person wrote on 2GB’s Facebook.
Many people in the comments of 2GB’s post allege if they were on the train they would ask the woman to remove her bag, and do it for her if she did not comply.
“I would’ve picked it up and dropped it on the floor or just sat on it. Obviously the elderly lady wasn’t going to do that but it’s a shame no one did it on her behalf,” another person said.
