2024 Oscars Predictions:
Best International Feature

Perfect Days
Wim Wenders’ ‘Perfect Days’

Weekly Commentary (Updated March 7, 2024): The United Kingdom is poised to win its first Academy Award with Jonathan Glazer’s “The Zone of Interest” and what a deserved win it will be.

But while I have the floor: it’s time for the Academy to change its rules regarding who receives nominations and awards for internetional feature.

As it stands, the “country” is awarded the Oscar, even though the director’s name is on the statuette. So despite Jonathan Glazer’s film is nearly assured a win, he will not be able to carry the moniker “Academy Award winner.” The same way it doesn’t follow Asghar Farhadi, who’s won the category twice for “A Separation” and “The Salesman.”

Will Win: “The Zone of Interest” (United Kingdom)
Could Win: “Perfect Days” (Japan)
Should Win: “The Zone of Interest”
Should have been here: “Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World” (Romania) and “The Taste of Things” (France)

The 96th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 10.
