Magic C Wendell Carter Jr. taken off court in wheelchair after suffering knee injury vs. Heat

Orlando Magic center Wendell Carter Jr. was taken off the court in a wheelchair after suffering what looked like a serious right knee injury in their 115-105 loss to the Miami Heat on Friday night.

Carter, less than a minute into the second quarter at the Amway Center, set a screen on Heat guard Max Strus at the top of the key. As he took one step with his right leg to roll to the hoop, Carter immediately grabbed his right knee and started hopping while yelling out in pain.

Carter hopped under the hoop before lying down on the court and clutching his knee as play stopped. He was eventually helped up and into a wheelchair to go back to the locker room.

Carter finished with four points and four rebounds in 11 minutes. Specifics about his injury are not yet known, though the team ruled him out at halftime with a "lower leg injury."

The 22-year-old is averaging a career-high 12.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game this season, his second with the Magic after landing there last season in a trade from the Chicago Bulls. He signed a four-year, $50 million extension earlier this year.

The Heat, after grabbing their first lead late in the opening quarter, cruised through the final 36 minutes to claim the 10-point win — their fourth in their last five games. Strus led Miami with a career-high 32 points while shooting 8-of-11 from the 3-point line. Gabe Vincent added 27 points.

Franz Wagner led Orlando with 27 points and six rebounds, and Gary Harris finished with 20 points. The Magic have now lost seven straight, and have won just twice in the past month.
