Olympic champion Belinda Bencic has cruised past Zarina Diyas to progress into the quarter-finals of the Luxembourg Open.

In her first match since her shock defeat by Emma Raducanu in the US Open, the Swiss star Bencic triumphed 6-1 6-3 in an hour on Thursday.

Second seed Elise Mertens is also through to the quarter-finals but had to come from a set down to see off Aliaksandra Sasnovich, of Belarus, with the Belgian eventually prevailing 3-6 6-2 7-5.

Third seed Jelena Ostapenko also had to work hard to come through in three sets against Arianne Hartono, while Marie Bouzkova beat Greet Minnen with relative ease to continue her good form at the WTA tournament.
