Olympic basketball women's quarterfinals: Bracket, schedule, how to watch at Paris Games
It's win-or-go-home time for the women's basketball teams that qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The group stage is over and the knockout rounds are here, beginning with quarterfinal games on Wednesday.
It's not a surprise the United States advanced. The Americans are going for their eighth-straight Olympic gold medal and haven't so much as lost a game at the Olympics since the 1992 Barcelona Games. Breanna Stewart, A'ja Wilson and company will be heavy favorites to win gold again when they take on Nigeria, a team the United States defeated by a 54-point margin during the Olympic qualifying tournament in February. The Americans are the top seed in the knockout stage after finishing 3-0 in group play while outscoring their opponents by 58 points.
Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Serbia and Spain have also moved on to the quarterfinals. Spain was the only other team in the competition to go 3-0 in group play. Belgium and Nigeria made it by virtue of being the best third-place teams in their respective groups, as determined by point differential. Of the countries remaining, only the United States has ever won an Olympic gold medal in women's basketball before.
