No. 18 Auburn takes down No. 10 Ole Miss after Matt Corral injury scare

Star Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral had to leave the Rebels' game vs. Auburn in the first quarter after what appeared to be a significant lower left leg injury. But he wasn't out of the Rebels' 31-20 loss to the Tigers very long.

Corral walked to the sidelines unable to put any weight on his left leg after he avoided a sack. Corral's ankle didn't appear to bend awkwardly after further replays, but he immediately went down in significant pain after throwing the ball.

He was replaced by backup QB Luke Altmyer as Ole Miss trailed 14-3. After Corral was examined in the injury tent on the Ole Miss sideline he was carted back to the team's locker room.

But he walked back out onto the sideline early in the second quarter and returned to the game with 10 minutes to go in the half. He was walking much better than he was when he first left the field when he came back to the sideline.

Auburn leads the whole way

Ole Miss never took the lead on Saturday. The Rebels got within four points of the Tigers after an 11-yard run from Corral cut the lead to 21-17 with 2:42 to go before halftime. Auburn extended the lead back to 11 points with 11 seconds to go before halftime and Mississippi was never within eight the rest of the way.

Ole Miss turned the ball over on downs three times in the second half as coach Lane Kiffin continued to be aggressive in opponents’ territory. It’s no guarantee that Ole Miss would have one the game if Kiffin had chosen field goals — the Rebels still lose by two with nine extra points. But it’s worth noting that Kiffin’s aggressiveness hasn’t worked out in both of Ole Miss’ losses this season.

Corral finished the game 21-of-37 passing for 289 yards and an interception that he threw in the end zone after he thought he had an open receiver. Auburn QB Bo Nix was 22-of-30 passing for 276 yards and a TD and also rushed eight times for 30 yards and two touchdowns.
