Olarenwaju Kayode outshines Francis Uzoho as Girona defeat Deportivo

Olarenwaju Kayode led Girona to a 2-1 away win over Francis Uzoho’s Deportivo in Monday’s Spanish La Liga encounter.

The first goal of the encounter arrived in the 25th minute after Raul Albentosa wrestled Kayode to the ground to avoid him connecting with a right wing cross and the referee pointed to the spot. Aday converting the penalty sending 18-year-old Uzoho the wrong direction.

Pablo Machín’s men would go into the break with a goal lead but just six minutes after the restart, the hosts pulled level in similar fashion. Lucas Perez converted from the spot after he was upended in the area by defender Jonas Ramalho.

In the 71st minute, the Catalan outfit secured the winner after Kayode cushioned a header in the path of striker partner, Cristian Portu who poked past the onrushing Nigerian shot-stopper to upset Pepe Mel’s side.

The game was Kayode’s ninth as his side climb to 15th place in the Spanish top division log. And he has registered just an assist as he is yet to reproduce the sort of form that saw Manchester City capture him from Austria Wien in the summer. While, teenage sensation, Uzoho has now seen 180 minutes of topflight football with his side, now placed 16th.

And the two goals conceded on Friday were the Nigeria youth international first and second after keeping a clean slate in his debut against Eibar last week.
