Odyssey Ai-ONE Silver, Ai-One Milled Silver putter family
Just over a year ago, Odyssey released a new family of putters, the Ai-One and Ai-ONE Milled, that blended modern designs and looks with an entirely new face insert. On the target-facing side, the Ai-ONE insert looked like other White Hot inserts that have been popular on Odyssey putters for over two decades, but on the inner-facing side, supercomputers using artificial intelligence had added thicker and thinner areas that helped to normalize ball speed and enhance a player's distance control. The Ai-ONE face worked so well that Jon Rahm switched to a prototype Ai-ONE putter just a few weeks before the start of the 2023 Ryder Cup.
Now Odyssey is refining the look of those putters and offerings Ai-ONE Silver and Ai-ONE Milled Silver putters in classic chrome-toned versions.
Ai-ONE vs. Ai-ONE Milled
The insert found in the standard Ai-ONE Silver putters is made using aluminum and covered by the same urethane found in the White Hot insert that has been popular for two decades. While it looks like a traditional grooved insert on the front, there are a series of ridges and thickened areas on the back. The variable-thickness insert normalizes ball speed across a much more significant portion of the hitting area, so more mis-hit putts roll out to the same distance as well-struck putts, leading to improved distance control.
While the Ai-ONE Silver's insert will have the soft feel of the White Hot insert, the Ai-ONE Milled Silver's insert is different. Instead of a urethane cover over aluminum, the insert is milled using titanium with a copper-toned finish. The Ai-ONE Milled Silver putters will create a higher-pitched sound and firmer feel, like a traditional milled putter, but still provide the benefit of the variable-thickness face.
Updated Looks
The previously released Ai-ONE and Ai-ONE Milled putters were all designed with a dark-toned finish that complimented the white and copper-toned face inserts. However, the just-released putters have a classic silver-toned chrome finish. This gives them a more refined look in the address position, but the steel should still provide some level of anti-glare protection on sunny days.
The new Ai-ONE offerings include the #1, a classic heel-toe weighted blade, along with a #1 wide, which has the same general shape but with an extended back flange. Odyssey is also offering the popular #7 mallet with both a single-bend and a double-bend shaft. Odyssey is also offering a Jailbird Mini with both Versa alignment stripes that run from heel to toe and Versa 90 stripes that flow from front to back.
The new Ai-ONE Milled offerings include the Two T, a heel-toe weighted blade, along with the semi-circular Three T mallet and a double-bend and crank hosel-version of the Seven T.
