'Oblivious' fans ruin serviceman's ball-game proposal

A returned serviceman’s plan to propose to his girlfriend on the Chicago Bears ‘Bear Hug Game’ went horribly wrong after a group of fans ruined the special moment.

The Chicago Bears hosted the Detroit Lions at Soldier Field over Veterans Day weekend and one US serviceman was ready to make it extra special.

The Jumbotron camera was in place and ready with the Bruno Mars hit “Marry You” blaring, while Nathan Jennings shocked his girlfriend by getting down on one knee.

But what happened next definitely wasn’t in the script.

The gentleman behind the couple realises what’s going on, and gestures to the man two seats away to watch the special moment.

But the four guys in front of the couple had no such awareness and were excited to see their own faces on the big screen – so they carried on as many people do, with a mixed response from users on social media:

“I Hope you guys give him his money back, the whole thing was blocked!,” one user wrote.

“Don’t propose at games, thats on you,” another commented.

“You’re right, we should never make a public display of a milestone like that. Get real dude. It happens at games all the time. Those guys should’ve been more aware,” a social media user wrote.

“The oblivious cam,” @jody0121 commented.

“Wow! Great moment for that couple but what people do when they see themselves on camera, idiotic,” @pierre4321 replied.

Though the men never stopped waving at themselves and Chicago faithful, the camera got a glimpse of Nathan’s new-fiancee waving her ring-adorned hand and the celebratory kiss.

These enthusiastic Chicago faithful took the lyrics “it’s a beautiful night/We’re looking for something dumb to do” a little too seriously.
