NSW man charged over child abuse material
A 36-year-old Sydney man is facing a string of charges, including producing child abuse material.
Detectives attached to the Child Exploitation Internet Unit began investigating after being tipped off by the Australian Federal Police in March.
Strike Force Trawler police raided a southwest Sydney home at Edmondson Park on May 17, seizing a mobile phone, iPad, gel blaster, cannabis and a notebook.
"A 36-year-old man was arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station where he was charged with possession of an unauthorised firearm, prohibited drugs and child abuse material," police said in a statement on Thursday.
The man appeared in Penrith Local Court on May 18 and was granted strict conditional bail to appear in Liverpool Local Court on June 28.
Strike force detectives then raided a business in Prestons on Wednesday, where they again arrested a 36-year-old man.
He has been charged with nine offences, including having sex with a child under 16, using a child under 14 to make child abuse material, and possessing child abuse material.
The man was refused bail and will appear before Liverpool Local Court on Thursday.
Inquiries under Strike Force Trawler continue.
