'You don't try': Junior reporter grills Nick Kyrgios on tennis controversies

Nick Kyrgios has been grilled by a junior reporter over his controversial decisions on and off the court, including why he 'tanks' in matches.

In an interview released by the Lawn Tennis Association, Vuk sat down with the Australian world No.39 at the rain-interrupted Queen's tournament.

And the young interviewer, with a smile on his face, didn't hold back.

Vuk: "I get told off if I don't work hard at school. Do you get told off when you don't work hard at tennis?" he asked.

Kyrgios: "I don't have a coach so no one tells me anything, but yeah I should work hard."

Vuk: "Some people told me, not me, that you don't try sometimes."

Kyrgios: "Yeah, I don't. Yeah, makes me a bad guy though."

Vuk: "You ought to try."

Kyrgios, seemingly caught off guard: "Yeah, you're right."

Vuk went on to ask whether he should join the growing ranks of players imitating Kyrgios by attempting underarm serves.

"If you want to," Kyrgios said.

"I think against some players it's a good tactic but maybe just keep it nice and conventional.

"Don't want to go too outside the boundaries, might get in trouble."

After an exchange about Fortnite and Call of Duty, Vuk quizzed Kyrgios on his friendship with British tennis great Andy Murray.

And it seems Vuk was once again tipped off about a certain recent spat that hit the headlines again this week.

After declaring Murray one of the greatest players of all time, Vuk noted that Kyrgios forgot Novak Djokovic.

"Who?" Kyrgios replied.

Vuk: "Novak Djokovic."

Kyrgios: "Who's that?"

Vuk: "He's the Serbian tennis player!"

Kyrgios: "Oh yeah, I think I know him. Sorry."

The cheeky reporter was always on Kyrgios's good side, with the Aussie declaring the interview was the best part of his day.
