Boom rookie QB Watson tears ACL

In a shocking injury blow for the Texans boom rookie quarterback has reportedly torn his ACL and will miss the rest of the season.

NFL Media first reported Watson went down with a non-contact injury in practice Thursday and feared the worst. Subsequent reports said an MRI confirmed the injury.

Watson apparently went down on a normal drill in which he was running the read option.

The Houston Chronicle reported Watson will undergo surgery, which should lead to an eight- to nine-month rehab process.

The rookie QB played with a torn ACL his freshman year at Clemson, but this injury appears to be beyond that.

In seven games (six starts) for the Texans this season, the rookie quarterback out of Clemson has thrown for 1,699 yards and 19 touchdowns.

He was on pace for the most TD passes by rookie in NFL history.

He was the runaway leader in the Rookie of the Year award as well.

Tom Savage is in line to start this weekend against the Colts, who announced Thursday that Andrew Luck will not play this season.

Houston will sign Matt McGloin to fill out the roster, the Chronicle reported. McGloin was Texans coach Bill O'Brien's starter in 2012 at Penn State.
