Leaked police report reveals crazy value of Brady's stolen jersey
A Houston Police report has valued Tom Brady's stolen Super Bowl jersey at a small fortune.
According to the leaked police report, the “Shirt/Blouse/T-Shirt” is worth a cool $500,000.
Police have also listed the offence as a first degree felony, the most serious category of offences.
More than two weeks after the Patriots won Super Bowl LI, the 39-year-old's jersey is still missing.
Here's the police report originally obtained by TMZ.
Pretty big markup from the Brady jersey you can buy at the team store.
Some jerseys have been auctioned for more but most of them are almost a century old and worn by Babe Ruth, including a 1920 jersey that went for $4.4 million.
But Brady’s jersey is certainly valuable, and probably more valuable now that it has such a big story attached to it.
USA Today quoted Josh Evans, the founder and chairman of the auction website Lelands.com, as saying Brady’s jersey could sell for a million in an auction.
Before the theft, Evans said it might have been worth about $250,000.
The jersey is infamous due to the bold theft, and whoever has it owns a $500,000 (or more) article of memorabilia he or she can’t sell or display because it was obtained illegally. Smart.
Given that Brady wore that jersey as he won his record-setting fifth Super Bowl, he probably couldn’t even put a price on it, no matter how high that price is getting.
"I put it in the bag and I came out and it wasn't there anymore," Brady said the morning after the victory. "It's unfortunate because that's a nice piece of memorabilia.
"If it shows up on eBay somewhere, someone let me know so I can track that down."
Brady completed 43 of 62 throws for 466 yards -- all Super Bowl passing records -- and two touchdowns and guided New England from a 28-3 deficit in the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history.
