Trump slams NFL over 'soft' concussion policy

Trump slams NFL over 'soft' concussion policy

US presidential hopeful Donald Trump has continued to say controversial and ill-informed things at his rallies, but this time sport was in his cross-hairs.

During a recent rally in Florida a woman passed out and then regained consciousness.

So Trump decided to take the opportunity to slam the NFL and its concussion policy.

"That woman was out cold, and now she’s coming back," Trump says.

"We don’t go by these new, and very much softer, NFL rules.

"Concussions—oh, oh! Got a little ding on the head.

"No, no, you can’t play for the rest of the season.

"Our people are tough!"

The NFL's new concussion policy has been implemented as a result of a series of serious long-term mental issues involving past players, many of whom resort to suicide to escape the mental damage they live with.

The NFL recently settled thousands of concussion lawsuits filed by former players for an estimated $1.33 (AUS) billion dollars.

Trump has a negative history with the NFL, after his failed attempt at setting up the United States Football League in 1984.
