NFL Wrap: The moments you may have missed in Week 4

There was no shortage of drama and excitement during Week 4 of the NFL season.

Tom Brady made an emotional return to New England, an Aussie punter etched his name into the history books and federal law enforcement raided the Washington Football Team’s facility.

WILD: Aaron Rodgers could pull Tom Brady-style switch on Packers

'IT BLEW UP': Coach's staggering $20k bar tab after epic beer pledge

With so much going on, it would’ve been easy to skip past some of the other weird, wacky and wonderful moments that took place during a jam-packed weekend of NFL action.

Here’s what you might’ve missed:

Bill Belichick’s son steals the show

Much was made of Tom Brady’s return to New England and the match-up with his former head coach Bill Belichick, however, it was Belichick’s son Steve that had tongues wagging (including his own) during the clash between the Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Pats outside linebackers coach caused quite a stir on social media with his impressive mullet and animated facial expressions as the game went down to the wire, with Brady’s Bucs eventually prevailing 19-17.

Rogers, Tomlin exchange smiles amid Steelers speculation

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin were captured sharing a cheeky grin with one another during the Packers’ 27-17 win at Lambeau Field.

The exchange occurred after Rodgers nearly drew a penalty on the Steelers’ defence for having too many men on the field, only for Tomlin to intervene by calling a timeout in the nick of time.

The show of mutual respect between the pair will only exacerbate the rumours already swirling that Rodgers could be headed to Pittsburgh next season.

Tucker nails 70-yard field goal in warm-ups

After Justin Tucker showed-off his incredible leg strength to nail an NFL-record 66-yard game-winner last week, many were intrigued by what the Baltimore Ravens kicker might be capable of at altitude in Denver.

The 31-year-old demonstrated his range in the thin air of Mile High Stadium during warm-ups, hitting a 70-yarder with room to spare. Tucker went 3 for 3 during the game, with a long of 46 yards, as the Ravens defeated the Broncos 23-7.

Referee’s embarrassing mishap

Veteran NFL referee Barry Anderson was left red-faced when he seemingly forgot how many fingers he had while officiating the clash between the Dallas Cowboys and Carolina Panthers.

The blooper occurred as Anderson attempted to indicate 2nd down while announcing a penalty to the crowd at AT&T Stadium.

Peppers’ overly enthusiastic coin toss reaction

New York Giants safety Jabrill Peppers was clearly delighted with himself after winning the all-important overtime coin toss to help the Giants secure a 27-21 win over the New Orleans Saints.

Peppers’ confidence prior to the flip was only outdone by the enthusiasm of his celebration after the coin fell in his favour, which was heard clearly through the referee’s microphone.

Kicker calls on smelling salts for extra oomph

Arizona Cardinals kicker Matt Prater was captured taking a whiff of some smelling salts just prior to lining up a 23-yard field goal attempt against the Los Angeles Rams.

A week earlier, Prater left a 68-yard field goal attempt short against the Jacksonville Jaguars that was returned 109 yards for a touchdown, tying an NFL record.

Perhaps the 37-year-old felt he needed something a little extra to help blast the ball through the uprights this time.

Detroit Lions doing Detroit Lions things

Nothing is a better reflection of the Detroit Lions’ struggles in recent years than the botched snap that led to an early turnover in their 24-14 loss to the Chicago Bears.

Lions quarterback Jared Goff was clearly not ready as the ball was fired off, with it deflecting off his shoulder into the hands of Bears defensive lineman Bilal Nichols.

After a 0-4 start to the season, it looks like the Lions 61-year Super Bowl drought is set to continue for at least another season.
