Seattle Seahawks quarterback Drew Lock has fired back at the social media ‘intern’ whose viral tweet brutally roasted him.

The drama started when SportsCenter tweeted a video of Nick Kyrgios’s underarm, between-the-legs serve during his Wimbledon Round of 16 win over Stefan Tsitsipas on Sunday.

A Seahawks fan responded to the video by claiming tennis is ‘not a sport’, only to cop a ruthless clapback from the US Open’s official twitter account.

Innocent bystander Lock was mercilessly dragged into the exchange with the US Open account tweeting ‘not a sport says the person about to watch 17 games of Drew Lock at QB.’

However, the US Open account did not just leave it at that, doubling down on its sledging of Lock by posting a graphic ranking the NFL’s quarterbacks that had Lock ranked dead last.

The vicious response caused quite a stir on the social media platform, with Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf even chiming in to defend his quarterback.

Lock initially stayed out of the controversy, but couldn’t resist taking a light-hearted jab at the US Open account admin with a cheeky Independence Day tweet on Monday.

“Happy 4th to all but especially to the intern at the @usopen,” Lock tweeted.

To their credit, the US Open account responded by paying tribute to Lock for being a good sport about the situation.

Lock joined Seattle this offseason after being included in the trade that saw legendary Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson sent to the Denver Broncos.

The 25-year-old is entering his third season in the NFL, but is not certainty to start for the Seahawks, with Geno Smith also in contention to be Pete Carroll’s number one choice under centre.

Lock played in 24 games for the Broncos, including 21 starting appearances, but led the NFL with 15 interceptions in 2020, which saw him demoted to backup behind Teddy Bridgewater.

The Seahawks will be looking to improve on their 7-10 record from the 2021-22 campaign that saw them finish below .500 for just the first time in a decade.

The first round of the US Open begins on Aug. 29, three days after Lock's third preseason game with the Seahawks.

By that point, Lock may not even be the starter if the Seahawks decided to start Geno Smith under center or trade for someone like Baker Mayfield.
