Stricken teen driver's heartwarming return to the track
A British teenager who lost both his legs in a horrific race crash has returned to the track just a month after his accident.
Billy Monger was competing in the British Formula 4 competition last month when he slammed into the back of a stationary opponent's car.
He was trapped in the wreckage for 90 minutes and spent almost three weeks in hospital, having to have both of his legs amputated.
But just four weeks on, Monger took part in a charity event raising money for his ongoing medical costs over the weekend.
Fans joined him at Oulton Park in Cheshire for a charity track-walk, with Billy driving a golf cart.
"Everyone was cheering me on, it was all positive which is good, I don't want my injuries to be a negative thing around the paddock I want people to see it as a positive that made the motor-sport community come together," Billy said.
Three-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has rallied to the support of the teenager.
"I have only just seen the news of this tragic incident," tweeted Mercedes star Hamilton with a link to a crowd-funding campaign set up for Monger.
"Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, @BillyMonger."
