Mostert reprimanded for dangerous victory burnout

Chaz Mostert's burnout after winning Sunday's V8 Supercars race at Phillip Island has come with an expensive price tag.

Mostert returned to the winner's podium for the first time in two years, triumphing in a Prodrive one-two.

But the Supercheap Auto Racing driver has since been fined $3,000 for doing a burnout after crossing the finish line.

As you can hear in the video above, Mostert was told on team radio: "You can do a burnout but you've got to do it after the first turn and you've got to let the field go past you."

However teams had been instructed earlier in the weekend that 'static' burnouts would not be allowed.

"Following the Race, the DRD (Deputy Race Director) conducted an investigation into an allegation that the Driver of Car #55, Chaz Mostert, disobeyed the End of Race Procedure by performing a static burnout,” a statement from the CAMS stewards read.

"Following an admission to the breach, the Stewards imposed a Fine of $3,000, of which $2,000 is suspended until 31/12/17."

Mostert also almost cleaned up Winterbottom as his teammate was coming around the first turn.

But after so much misfortune over the last two seasons, few could begrudge Mostert his first taste of champagne.

It was a sweet result for the 25-year-old, who led the field in the last meet at Tasmania only to make a blunder and give up a potential victory.

"It's been long enough between wins," he said.

"Yesterday to blow two right rears, we've turned it upside down ... it's absolutely amazing and a credit to all the guys."
