'Aussie Kardashians' have serious surfing aspirations

The Coffey family is known as the 'Aussie Kardashians' of the surf world, and it's not hard to see why.

Just like the Kardashians the Coffeys have several attractive sisters and one brother.

But unlike the famous reality TV stars the Coffeys are gaining attention for their surfing skills.

22-year-old Elli-Jean and 17-year-old sister Holly-Daze are 'Insta-famous' - along with their siblings Jackson (21), Ruby-Lee (16) and Bonnie-Lou (13) they have more than 1 million followers.

But Elli-Jean and Holly-Daze are more than just a couple of pretty faces. These Aussie blonde bombshells have serious dreams of qualifying for the elite Women's Championship Tour.

This week the sisters are wildcards at the Australian Open of surfing in Sydney.

Speaking to Sunrise on Monday morning, the sisters said they have no problem being compared to the Kardashians.

"We obviously can see why we're compared because of the whole family unit but obviously we're talented," Ellie-Jean says with a laugh.

"We're not fabulously wealthy either."

The family packed up from Sydney's northern beaches 12 years ago when mother Kym suffered a broken neck and their bricklayer father Jason decided they needed a change.

They lived on the road, cruising the east coast of Australia before finally settling on the Gold Coast six years ago, the kids home-schooled the whole time.

"We grew up in a caravan travelling around Australia – we haven't been living in mansions but it's still been fun," Holly-Daze says.

The family is sponsored by Billabong and have a number of other sponsors who pay for their army of followers.

But away from their social media fame, Ellie-Jean and Hollie-Daze want to be known for their surfing abilities as well.

"This year we hopefully want to qualify (for the pro tour), we're doing all of the six-stars and all of the main events," Ellie-Jean says.

"We love travelling the world and we're very active on social media but we really want to try and focus on qualifying and getting to that next level."
