Teammates sent off for embarrassing on-field altercation

Preston North End teammates Jermaine Beckford and Eoin Doyle were both red-carded for fighting each other during their clash with Sheffield Wednesday.

The embarrassing incident occurred in the 90th minute as Preston chased an equaliser, with Beckford furious at Doyle's failure to put him through on goal.

Preston were left with just nine men for the remainder of stoppage time and manager Simon Grayson was understandably furious.

"In 30 years of being a footballer, player or manager, I've never seen an incident like that between two teammates," said Grayson. "I thought I'd seen it all at the Forest game last night but today has been an embarrassment with those players.

"Absolute childish behaviour from the pair of them has cost us ultimately a point out of this game, potentially three, because at 2-1, 11 against 10, it looked like we were going to get something out of the game.

"They've let a lot of people down. Those players will be reprimanded regardless because they've cost us an opportunity to get something out of today's game and potentially a three-match ban for both of them."
