'Floyd's not ready for this': McGregor demands $100 million for fight
The feud between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather is heating up, with the Irish UFC champion saying he wants $100 million in cash to jump in the boxing ring with the boxing legend.
The aggressive exchanges started after McGregor’s lightweight championship bout, which saw him become the first fighter in the history of the sport to hold two title belt at the same time.
In a street interview with TMZ, Mayweather said comparisons between himself and the Irishman were “total disrespect”.
“Never compare Conor McGregor to me,” he said. “I’m an elephant. An elephant don’t beef with ants. Elephant is so large he don’t even see ants.”
McGregor then lashed out at Mayweather, daring him to “say it to my face”.
On Tuesday night (local time), McGregor had more to say during his victory tour in New York City.
On stage at nightclub 1 Oak, he announced that he would be prepared to step into Mayweather’s territory – the boxing ring.
“He wants it under boxing rules. He wants a boxing match. He doesn’t want a fight,” McGregor shouted to the crowd.
“Tell Floyd and Showtime, I’m coming. Tell him to go to them Showtime offices. I want $100 million cash to fight you under boxing rules ‘cause he’s afraid of a real fight.
“Floyd’s not ready for this. Much respect to Floyd, he’s a solid businessman. What he has been able to do, he’s a (expletive) animal at what he’s been able to do but as far as real fighting, as far as true, pure unarmed combat — Floyd don’t want none of this,” McGregor said.
Even UFC President Dana White got in on the action, saying Mayweather didn’t stand a chance.
"Conor McGregor, if he touches you, you go to sleep. Floyd puts people to sleep too, with his fighting style, not with his hands," White said.
"Floyd can say what he wants about Conor, but even other fighters have to respect him. He's special. Floyd's never even come close to doing to other fighters what Conor does."
