Bold Brit sneaks into #MayPac, gets selfies with everyone

Ever dreamed of mingling with A-list celebrities at a major sporting event? It might not be quite as tricky as you imagined.

One plucky punter managed to hang out with the stars at the ‘fight of the century’ between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao – snapping a collection of ‘selfies’ with famous faces including Paris Hilton, Mark Wahlberg and Donald Trump.

Steve Carruthers’ remarkable evening began with him sneaking back stage at the MGM Grand with Leonardo DiCaprio and concluded with Mayweather saving him from getting chucked out.

The 24-year-old donned a suit and managed to slip into the VIP area after spotting the Hollywood actor and cheekily joined his crew as they funnelled inside.

"It was quite hard," said the Brit. "You've got to have the balls to do it."

"If I was in jeans and trainers I don't think it would have worked. Everyone was suited and booted so I just blended in.

"I was outside and I saw Leo DiCaprio - he had a cap on and his sunglasses and head down so that nobody recognised him, but I did and followed him in.

"I just walked in with him to the ballroom after tagging on with about six of his entourage. He went straight to the bar and that was where he took off his cap.

"DiCaprio said he didn't do photos, but he was really nice and polite and gave me a handshake."

Carruthers managed to relax with celebrities in the VIP bar before making his way ring side for the fight.

"[Actor] Mark Wahlberg was really friendly," he said. "He did a shout out to my friend to my phone.

"I took a selfie with [American personality] Donald Trump with both of us pulling silly faces."

Although his primary ambition of blagging a £650,000 ring side seat proved unsuccessful – instead he had to settle for his already-purchased £2,000 view – he began the next instalment of his adventure after Mayweather’s unanimous points victory.

He managed to slip past security by joining journalists waiting outside the fighters’ dressing rooms, getting a photo with Pacquiao before finally being discovered when trying to meet Mayweather.

But the undefeated American fighter covered for Carruthers and invited him to the post-bout press conference.

"There was about four other people there already with their accreditation badges around their necks - so I just walked through and evaded security," he said.

"I just waited outside their dressing rooms and just avoided eye contact with anyone.

"Manny was the first one to come out and I took a photo with him. He was really nice considering he had just lost the biggest fight of his career.

"Nobody was asking who I was so I just stuck around and waited for Floyd to come out. He was really cool and had a huge entourage.

"I asked him for a photograph and also an autograph and I was walking with him. He said it was ok to walk along with him, but he had to go do an interview right then.

"The MGM security said I had no accreditation on, but he said 'I got him' and said it was fine, he said 'just leave him, don't worry it's fine'."

An exceptional evening’s work, Steve.
