Anand beats cancer, paralysis to become India's first wheelchair bodybuilder

Anand Arnold, it is fair to say, is an inspirational character. He has been labelled 'India's First Wheelchair Bodybuilder'.

According to a report in the India Times, Arnold began his passion for bodybuilding at a relatively young 13.

In fact, he won his first title that year. However, tragedy struck just two years later when Arnold was diagnosed with cancer.

Such was the severity of his condition, he had to undergo immediate treatment but it left him paralysed from the neck down with little mobility in his hands.

"After the operation, my chest was paralysed. I could just move my hands and nothing else," he said.

"Those three years were like hell for me."

However, Arnold was unperturbed and returned to training, as can be seen from the below video.

His training has helped regain his strength and he began to compete as India’s first wheelchair bodybuilder.

The reports adds that Arnold has gone on to win 3 Mr India titles, 12 Mr Punjab titles and 27 other major titles since he began competing again.

The man himself has said of his achievements that “to succeed, turn your weakness into your strength."

Anand we salute you.
