Sydney Cup LIVE on Seven

Day two of The Championships from Royal Randwick promises to be a dream for racing purists and sports fans alike with another four Group 1 races on the card.

An incredibly strong field will assemble for the $1.6 million 3200m Sydney Cup, with two of the first three from last year’s Melbourne Cup, Protectionist and Who Shot Thebarman, along with Godolphin’s race favourite Hartnell fresh from his triumph in the BMW.

The $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes will hold added intrigue as fan favourite and UK chestnut Red Cadeaux will now run the 2000m race, after initially being slated for the Sydney Cup.

Chris Waller-trained Winx and the winner of the Vinery Stud Stakes Fenway will be among the favourites in the Group 1 Australian Oaks for three year old fillies.

In race seven, popular grey mare Catkins will be aiming for her first Group 1 win in the $1 million Queen of the Turf Stakes over 1600m.

Bruce McAvaney hosts the coverage with racing experts Francesca Cumani and Simon Marshall.
