Golfer Kim faces $US10 million dilemma

Elusive golfer Anthony Kim is reportedly in the grips of an agonising $US10 million dilemma.

The 29-year-old American hasn’t been seen on the professional tour since he tore his Achilles in 2012 – the last in a succession of bad injuries that have plagued his short career.

However, according to Sports Illustrated, if Kim gives up on his prodigious golfing talent and retires from the sport citing injury, he can cash in a $US10 million insurance policy.

Or he can tee up and play, chase his dream and give up the tax-free payday.

A close friend of Kim’s told Sports Illustrated, “He’s trying to weight the risk of coming back. The way he’s phrased it to me is, ‘If I take one swing on Tour, the policy is voided.’”

Kim announced his arrival on the PGA Tour in 2008 with two big-time victories and finished sixth on the money list with $US4.7 million.

But a myriad of injuries in subsequent years meant he failed to reproduce the same level of success, but it is arguable Kim still has the talent to carve out a professional career that will earn him much more than $US10 million.

Now described by commentators as a “recluse”, Kim hasn’t spoken to the media and has fallen out of touch with the golfing community since vanishing from the spotlight.
