Just how high is the high jump?

The high jump is one of the more impressive athletics events, however it's sometimes hard to put such feats in context.

We often marvel at the athletic abilities of footballers and basketball players, soaring through air to evade tackles or produce highlight reel slam dunks, now take a look at them alongside each other.

Adam Schmenk of USA Track and Field, Photoshopped these phenomenal images which show just how high these athletes are leaping.

Qatari high-jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim, pictured below cleared an impressive 2.43 metre jump at the 2014 Diamond League series in Brussels, just two centimetres shy of the 21-year-old world record.

When you place Barshim's leap alongside a 10-foot basketball hoop and a regulation soccer goal, the results are even more impressive.

2.43 metres equates to roughly eight feet, with the soccer goal more in line with the high jump, standing at 2.44 metres.
