Vonn posts graphic pictures of injury

Skier Lindsey Vonn has posted a gruesome picture on Facebook, days after undergoing surgery to repair her injured knee.

The US star broke her shin and tore the medial and anterior cruciate ligaments in her right knee in a horrifying crash at the World Championships at Schladming in Austria.

Vonn shared the photo, showing major swelling and bruising, and wrote: "My knee looks...um...not very good.... #longskirtsthissummer #ugh"

The 28-year-old was airlifted off the piste and will not compete again this season - she is aiming to return in time for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, which take place next February.

The US Ski Team confirmed that the operation was a success, while Dr William Sterett, who performed the surgery, is optimistic that Vonn can make a full recovery.

"She will do everything in her power to return as quickly as possible to competitive skiing," Sterett said.

Vonn is the most successful alpine skier of her generation, having won four overall World Cup titles and downhill gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Later that year she received the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year award.

Her looks have earned her a significant following off the piste, and in 2010 she appeared in a Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Edition photoshoot.

Last December she denied reports of a romantic involvement with golfer Tiger Woods, saying: "We are just friends."

Rumours of a relationship have continued, however, with reports that Vonn used Woods's private jet to leave Austria following her injury.

Vonn's publicist said in January: "Lindsey is currently in the midst of the World Cup season in Europe.

"Her focus is solely on competing and on defending her titles and thus she will not participate in any speculation surrounding her personal life at this time."

Steve the Pom - you're not the same Steve whose a big TWAT at my work are you ? He knows nothing either. The Olympics are over ad yes your Great Britain for once finished ahead of the Aussie but then you combine four Countries for that so perhaps not so Great. Your cricket team is being beaten by us Kiwi's so I feel proud :) Oh on the per capita Olympic results have you actually seen them. Grenada is 1st then Jamaca, Trinidad&Tobago followed by us Kiwi's who with just one country of 4 Million won 13 medals. Aussie had a bad year so only got 13th but not so Great Britain was 23rd. Google it before you mouth off STEVE. Have your moment of Glory because thats about all you actually have - everyone else knows that in nearly every sport the Kiwi's & Aussies will beat the Poms. You're easy.

I think maybe Steve is ths way because of the blokes on the Aussie rowing team at the Olympics turned him down. Obvoiusly the pain of rejection was too much for him. But Steve, you need to get over it and maybe find a guy in your own weight division.

I'm still trying to figure out what Steven's dribble has got to do with Lindsay Vonn. Anyway, maybe Steven could share his athletic achievements with the rest of us "wankers". He seems to be an expert in commentary, so I can only assume he has "been there & done that" on the sporting field.
