Mike Tyson supports biter James Graham

Disgraced Bulldogs prop James Graham has received a strong show of support from former boxing bad boy – and fellow biter - Mike Tyson.

Graham was banned for 12 weeks earlier this month after being found guilty of biting the ear of Melbourne fullback Billy Slater during the NRL grand final.

The incident was similar to when Tyson infamously bit a chunk out of Evander Holyfield's ear during their heavyweight bout in 1997, which saw Tyson banned for 12 months and fined $US3 million.

While labelling his own punishment “absurd”, Tyson said the sentence handed down to Graham, and the negative publicity that followed, was punishment enough.

"The punishment they gave (Graham) ... well, you just can't take away this guy's money and stuff. He made a mistake," Tyson told Fairfax media.

"He probably has a family to support. Give him a suspension, give him some kind of fine but you can't take this guy's money and abuse him (just because) he made a mistake!"

Tyson said the brutal nature of rugby league meant incidents like the Graham bite were bound to happen.

"It's football with no equipment, so it's tough and ... you should expect something like that to happen.

"I'm sure there is a fear-factor in that you could break your neck and be paralysed in a second."

Tyson DID NOT back Gillard, he stated that the world was sexist. As for the boat people how does dopey Tony think he can change the Indonesian governments mind??? I see turnbull said they will keep the nbn, carbon tax went through like a wrecking ball dressed as an octopus, we still have the best economy going and good old tony wants to put more people on the dole just like QLD wants. There goes your pension increases you silly old farts.

Who the hell would take any notice of what Mike Tyson says? The guy is a no account loser. He backs Julia Gillard and says that James Graham's incident in the Grand Final was OK!!! His comments show just what a dope he is. Yankee go home.

If I had been heavy weight Champion of the world at 19 I would have made far more mistakes than Mike Tyson did, we all loved the fact that he could destroy a bloke in twenty seconds and then wondered why he went off the rails. At least he had the guts to put his #$%$ in the ring and not just slag people off from behind a computer screen like most of the cowards on these forums.

Who cares what Mike Tyson thinks . One thug will always defend another . Rugby league is a tough game but we don't want our kids to think that ear biting is OK . Grahams suspension was a correct decision and he'll think twice before he does it again .

OMG if Mike Tyson backs James Graeme for ear biting he has no idea about Rugby League in Australia this is considered to be a MAGGOT ACT it might be the norm in Pommy Land but it has no place here !!!!! 12 weeks I would have banned him for a year and him back to MAGGOT LAND !!!!!!!!!!

Tyson has been given a "entertainment visa" due to him wanting to do a speaking seminar tour....as for who invited him? @ the end of the day does it really matter....The Victorian premier is all jumped up about Tyson coming to Australia and wants the commonwealth decision overturned...he is not an Illegal immigrant coming here on a boat......mikes changed...time has done that....give him a break!
