North Melbourne captain Andrew Swallow has claimed he 'couldn't imagine being anywhere else' after extending his contract with the Kangaroos until the end of the 2015 season.

Swallow was already contracted to North Melbourne for next year but did not hesitate when he was offered a two-year extension.

"It wasn't something I had to think about to be honest," Swallow said.

"I couldn't imagine being anywhere else and told (my manager) to get it done for sure."

Speaking to his club's website, the 25-year-old admitted he did not expect to be offered the chance to extend his contract this year.

"(My manager) rang to tell me the club had contacted him about signing me through until 2015 and I was a bit shocked," Swallow said.

Swallow has played every game in 2012, his first season as captain of the Kangaroos.

North Melbourne's chief of football Donald McDonald has been thrilled with how Swallow has adapted to the leadership position.

"We couldn't be happier with the way he's handled himself as the captain and believe he will be a long term skipper for the club," McDonald said.

The midfielder is one of only 14 players in North Melbourne's squad aged 25 or older.

And it is that young squad, combined with improved facilities, which Swallow believes sees the Kangaroos on the right track.

"You can see what we're trying to build and where the club is headed under the coaching of Brad Scott," Swallow said.

"New facilities mean we can now match it, if not offer more to any player going around.

"Our medical department, strength and conditioning and development areas are top class and the club gives its players every opportunity to succeed."

Swallow has played 122 games in seven seasons with North Melbourne and has won the club's best and fairest award on two occasions.

The West Australian was named as the captain of the Kangaroos at the start of the season, replacing Brent Harvey.

I hope Freo keeps North out of the 8 on percentage, that would be beautiful. If not, they wont get far in September anyway unless the umpires keep giving them soft 50m penalty goals which decide the game.
