Newport County will look to strengthen their midfield as they step up their January recruitment work.

And experience could be key for boss Nelson Jardim, who says players are being attracted to the Exiles because of their style.

Cardiff full-back Tom Davies became the League Two club's third signing of the month on Friday, joining Peterborough loanee David Ajiboye and Wales Under-21 goalkeeper Lewis Webb in arriving at Rodney Parade.

Jardim says work is ongoing for further additions, despite finances remaining tight, with midfield looking like a priority.

"We've been working hard and maybe there is something more in the pipeline," Jardim said.

"We are always assessing the market. A club like us has to be creative, we have to offer something different.

"We know how players think, they think about names and facilities, but we have to think about different ways to attract players – and I think the way we are starting to play is a big one."

Jardim says 26-year-old Ajiboye – who has more than 100 EFL appearances to his name – helps boosts a young squad's know-how.

But the Newport head coach accepts more experience could be needed as he looks to ensure progress in terms of performances is not undermined by worries over league position.

Newport are 18th - six points above Morecambe in the final relegation spot - ahead of Saturday's trip to Port Vale.

"Experience is a massive thing, talented people will always need guidance with experience," Jardim added.

"We do have it, but we have lost some from the pitch."

Jardim will cope with their current midfield options should they fail to make any further signings in this window.

"If we don't find the right player we have solutions in our squad to cover that area," he said.

"I am happy with the group. We know how we are in terms of the project, where we were and where we are now, and if it is not quite right we won't do it because we trust the players we have."
