Ghana youth international Wahab Ackwei has signed a three-year deal with Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls from Ghana Premier League team Inter Allies.

The 21-year-old midfielder's contract with the Tema-based side expired after last season and he opted not to extend it, ending a four-year stay at the club.

Ackwei is expected to continue his development at Red Bulls’ youth team ahead of a promotion to the first team.

“Wahab brings a unique skill set that we feel can adapt to how we play,” youth team coach John Wolyniec told the club's website.

“We look forward to helping him integrate within the team as he continues his development here with us,” he added.

Ackwei was part of Ghana U20 squad in 2015. He bagged three goals to help Allies avoid relegation last season.
