NBL clubs the Sydney Kings and Illawarra Hawks will be relocated to Albury from Boxing Day in a move prevent any exposure to Sydney's coronavirus outbreak.
NBL commissioner Jeremy Loeliger says the temporary relocation will give league officials time to assess the COVID-19 situation in Sydney ahead of the season starting on January 10.
"Given the ongoing situation in Sydney we have decided it's prudent for both clubs to relocate to Albury after Christmas and they will be accommodated and train there under strict COVID protocols," Loeliger said in a statement on Thursday,
"This will give us time to assess and work through the next steps required as we prepare for the start of the NBL season on January 10.
"We hope the restrictions in Sydney and resulting border closures will be eased as quickly as possible but we will need to stay flexible in our approach."
Loeliger said the NBL still expected the Kings and Hawks would play their 14 home games at their respective home venues.
