NBL's Phoenix part ways with import Benson

Import Keith Benson has played his last game for South East Melbourne Phoenix

Fledgling NBL franchise South East Melbourne say they have mutually agreed to part ways with import centre Keith Benson.

The power forward, who has played barely 10 minutes per game this season, won't suit up for Sunday's clash with the New Zealand Breakers.

"We thank Keith for his contribution to our first year in the NBL," Phoenix CEO Tommy Greer said in a statement issued on Saturday.

"He's remained ready at all times and has been the consummate professional."

Benson has struggled to find a regular place in the Phoenix rotation but did have an impact when called on.

His best performance came against Melbourne United in November where he dominated at both ends of the floor recording 20 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks.

The Phoenix say they are exploring options in terms of signing a replacement, with development player Will Hickey travelling with the team in the meantime.
