'Kick his a**': Raptors star's hilarious take on Kawhi Leonard's free agency
It makes sense that one of the most interesting NBA seasons in recent memory would be followed by one of the most interesting off-seasons in recent memory.
The Toronto Raptors are NBA champions for the first time, and their Finals MVP, Kawhi Leonard, headlines a bonkers free agent class which includes the likes of Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, Jimmy Butler, Kemba Walker and Kyrie Irving.
Despite winning the title just a few days ago, whether Leonard will decide to remain in Toronto or move on to a new team is going to be a hot topic until he makes his choice.
His teammates are used to it by now, with Raptors guard Fred Van Vleet offering a hilarious and frank response when asked about Leonard during the team’s first media availability since winning the title.
“I think for us, there is nothing more that we can do,” Van Vleet said.
“We’ve done it. The city has done it. This franchise had done it. The coaches have done it. My teammates have done it. We’ve done our job.
“The best way to recruit somebody is to just be yourself over the course of the year, and I would assume that he knows what is here and what makes this place special.”
MEGA MOVE: Massive Anthony Davis trade rocks the NBA
Of course, if Leonard does choose to leave in free agency, Van Vleet believes he and the remaining Raptors have a simple solution.
Kick his ass. (On the court, that is)
“If it’s enough, then it’s enough. If it’s not then it’s not,” he said.
“We would all love for him to be back and if he’s not then we will move on from there. It’s not the biggest deal in the world.
Fred VanVleet, NBA champion: "It's weird because we always need something to chase, so it's hard to be content. I kept looking around like, all right, what do we do now? What's next? For the most part, just party and enjoy it, have a couple of drinks."

“He came here and did what he was supposed to do.
“So he brought this city a championship and I think he has earned his freedom and his career to do what he wants to do and we’ll all respect him and admire him.”
“(If Leonard) is on another team, then we just have to kick his ass next year.”
