NBA superstar scares fans with dangerous football move

After being forced to work his way back from injuries in each of the past four summers, Joel Embiid is finally fully healthy during the offseason, affording the Philadelphia 76ers’ All-Star centre the chance to focus not on rehabilitating his body, but on advancing his game.

But while the 24-year-old All-NBA Second Teamer continues to work in pursuit of some awfully lofty goals, you’d imagine most in Philly would settle for him just getting through the summer and into next month’s training camp wholly intact.

That’s why you’d forgive everyone associated with the 76ers for holding their breath as they watched video of Embiid and skills trainer Drew Hanlen getting involved in a pickup soccer game in Embiid’s native Cameroon during his recent trip to Africa for the NBA’s annual summertime game there.

Like, we know you love the beautiful game, JoJo, but 7-foot-2 dudes aren’t supposed to be doing bicycle kicks.

Thankfully for all involved, Embiid appeared to be none the worse for wear after his attempted homage to noted bicycle kick enthusiasts Cristiano Ronaldo and Dirk Nowitzki, remaining upright and celebrating with customary aplomb:

Even so: maybe no more bicycle kicks, OK, Joel? Philly’s already got enough to deal with on the injury front without you tempting the hand of fate by trying to make your “FIFA” dreams into reality. We love your unbridled passion, but, for the good of the ballclub … um … maybe bridle it a little.
