Still grieving the loss of his brother Dan Telfair, who died last month after contracting the virus, the 34-year-old has now lost his mother in similar circumstances.

The player's former coach at Abraham Lincoln High School, Dwayne "Tiny" Morton, confirmed the awful news to the New York Post.

Erica Telfair reportedly died early on Monday in the United States after battling the virus.

Her official cause of death is yet to be confirmed. She was 64.

Sebastian Telfair and his younger brother Ethan both shared touching posts on social media to mourn the passing of their mother and brother.

“Rest In Peace Mommy,” Ethan wrote on Twitter on Sunday. “Until we meet again my angel.”

The news is a brutal double blow for the family, with Ethan already describing how deeply affected he was by the loss of his brother, before his mum passed away as well.

“Today i lost my big brother and it’s ripping my heart and spirit apart,” Ethan Telfair wrote on Twitter in March.

“I love you so much and i don’t know how I’m going to get over this.”

Telfair family flooded with outpouring of support

Condolences came flooding in on social media for the former NBA player and his family as the tragic news spread.

Telfair's cousin Stephon Marbury admitted after the first death in the family several weeks ago, that he was struggling emotionally.

"It's been a real challenge for me," Marbury said during the interview with Undefeated.

"I lost my cousin to this virus, my little cousin Sebastian, his older brother. We lost him two days ago. His mom is fighting for her life right now because of the virus. It's pretty difficult. It's a trying time."
