NBA betting: Bettor places $20,000 wager on Nets to win NBA Finals

A bettor is hoping the Nets will be much healthier in the 2021-22 season.

The title favorites got a huge bet at BetMGM to win the 2022 NBA title. Someone bet $20,000 on the Nets at +240 to win the NBA Finals. That bet would return a profit of $48,000 if the Nets win the championship.

Brooklyn enters the season as the favorite with Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving all healthy. Durant was the only available Nets star in the Eastern Conference finals against the Milwaukee Bucks this summer and the Nets still pushed the Bucks to seven games and nearly won the series.

The Nets have also gotten some reinforcements ahead of the 2021-22 season. The team has signed Patty Mills, Paul Millsap, and LaMarcus Aldridge to bolster the team’s bench. While neither of those players are in line to play big roles, they’re solid veterans to run out on the second unit and make spot starts if necessary.

The Lakers (+400) have gotten the most bets to win the title at BetMGM after an offseason in which they reshaped their team and acquired Russell Westbrook. Just over 25% of bets have been placed on the Lakers to win and no other team has gotten more than 9% of bets.

The big bet has pushed the handle — the total money wagered — significantly toward the Nets at this moment. Nearly 42% of the handle is on the Nets to win. Just over 25% of the handle is on the Lakers while just 5.5% of the handle is on the Bucks. That means that over 70% of the money bet at BetMGM so far is on just three teams to win the title.
